I thought I’d begin this blog by stating for myself and my readers what we both can expect to see in the future as this blog begins and grows. I expect most of my posts will fall into one of the three categories of the blog title, with some subdivisions likely.
WRITING – Topics I expect to include here would be: writing theory and practice; difficulties and successes; inspiration and encouragement (or lack thereof); procrastination techniques and avoidance (or overcoming them); and readings about writing. And just about anything else related to the subject.
READING – I’m sure I’ll have posts about books I’m reading – about the subject of writing – but also expect other posts about books I’ve read in the past or am currently reading. I anticipate most of my comments will probably be related to specific parts of books I’m reading, like a particularly inspirational or insightful quote – rather than a book review about the entire book itself. You can anticipate a lot of entries here about history, military history, U.S. history, women’s history, philosophy, pop culture, women’s studies, and other topics. As you can tell, most of what I read is non-fiction, though every once in a while I may pick up an interesting-sounding novel or even a children’s book.
REFLECTIONS – This is just a more purposeful word than “miscellaneous.” It will probably overlap some with the other two topics, but it is also where I will post about any other topic that strikes my fancy, ranging from tonight’s episode of “The Simpsons” to the persistence of embarrassing high school moments. (Don’t look for either of those any time soon.) More serious and weightier topics might also be addressed here.
That’s it for the intro. Tune in later and I’ll get the ball rolling.
